Lou’s Forever Framing is set to become the 28th downtown business renovated with help from the Austin Main Street Project.

The Austin Port Authority on Wednesday unanimously granted approval for the nearly $65,000 project, which will renovate the front door, windows and facade at the 317 Main St. property.

The deal calls for the owner to pay roughly $16,000, while the rest will be covered by an easement purchase and a forgivable loan.

Overall, the Main Street Project’s goal has been to revitalize the look and feel of downtown Austin. Notable projects to date have included what is now the new Steve’s Pizza, a new apartment complex and Rydjor Bike Shop.

However, the scope of the MSP could be expanding, program coordinator Sarah Douty said.

By 2011, MSP board members want to do more landscaping and streetscaping projects, according to a letter presented to the port authority.

This could mean projects such as adding new downtown benches, Douty said.
