Marian Underwood

Marian Elaine Underwood, 77, of Oakland, Fla., formerly of Austin, died of heart failure Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Orlando.
She was born Dec. 27, 1931, to Nels and Annie (Johnson) Hagna in Austin. She grew up on a farm east of Blooming Prairie where she attended Bagley School District 49. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1949. She married William “Bill” Underwood on June 12, 1955, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. Marian and Bill lived in many countries, including Guam, England, Germany, South America and Madagascar. She felt fortunate to be exposed to new cultures. Formerly owners of the Tastee-Freez for several years, Marian also worked for Continental Telephone and belonged to First Lutheran Church. When they moved to central Florida, she became an active member of Woodlands Lutheran Church. A gifted cook and baker, she will be remembered for her quick wit, sharp mind and petite stature.
Marian is survived by her husband, William J. Underwood; one son, Jon Underwood; daughters, Penny Underwood of central Florida and Peggy (Steve) Bernard; two grandchildren, Violet and Piper Bernard; sister, Ardell Lindquist of Blooming Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Orrin Hagna; sisters, Borghild (Arnold) Jensen and Nora (Byron) Mueller, all of Blooming Prairie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2010, at First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Blooming Prairie. Friends may greet the family thirty minutes prior to the service.
