Katherine Howard

Katherine Howard, age 99, of Lyle, Minn., died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Katherine was born on Nov. 16, 1910, in Lyle, Minn., to Jens and Anna (Hansen) Mortensen. Katherine graduated from Lyle in 1928. On Aug. 30,1937, she married Loie Howard in Lyle.
Katherine was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle, her church circle, Naomi, the Lyle tourism committee, and the Mower County Senior Citizen Center where she was Mower County Senior of the year. Katherine was on the Board of Directors for the Woodbury Cemetery Association where she served as secretary. She was a very active member of the Woodbury Willing Workers and served many positions for the organization. She was also a leader of 4-H for several years. Katherine enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards and her Lyle study club. She loved to meet people and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loie Howard, one sister, and three brothers.
Katherine is survived by her daughter Lola Howard of Lyle, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law David & Roberta Howard, St. Ansgar, Iowa; grandchildren: James(Trina) Howard, Polk City, Iowa; Suzanne (Michael) Hegarty, Adel, Iowa; great grandchildren Braeden, Lilah, Kyler, Thora, Calvin, and Samuel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Lyle with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Interment will be at Woodbury Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials may be designated to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Lyle, St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, or the Woodbury Cemetery Association.
