Vera Ulwelling

Vera A. Ulwelling, 94, of Austin, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Vera was born April 2, 1916 on the family farm in Winnishiek County, Iowa to Dan and Lucy McGee. She was the seventh of nine children. Vera attended country school through eighth grade and then attended high school in Cresco while living with her grandmother. After helping on the family farm for a few years, she came to Austin, finding a job at Hormel.
Vera was united in marriage to Benny Ulwelling on Sept. 16, 1940. They enjoyed traveling to Army reunions and visiting her many McGee relatives across the country. She loved keeping up on relatives and friends. Vera was a founding member of a sewing club for more than 50 years.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet (Ken) Ruzek of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Judy (Jeff) Lee of Rochester, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Katie Ulwelling of Austin, Minn.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard McGee of Austin; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Benny, on March 29, 2010; parents; four brothers; three sisters; son, Dan Ulwelling.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating.  Friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Vera’s grandchildren.
