Blanche Kingsboro Moen

Blanche Emma Kingsboro Moen, 89, of Crookston, Minn., formerly of Fertile, Minn., died on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Riverview Care Center, Crookston, Minn.
Blanche, the daughter Mark and Elsie (Lutt) Kingsboro, was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Bixby, Minn. She was a 1936 graduate of the Rose Creek, Minn. Consolidated School, graduated from the teacher training course, Austin, Minn., and then from Mankato State Teacher’s College in 1941. She taught elementary schools at a rural school district in Freeborn County, Minn., and in the Canton, Madelia, Rose Creek, and Grand Meadow Minn. public school. During the summer months she was employed by the State Bank of Rose Creek, First National Bank of Austin, and in the lab at Mercy Hospital, Mason City, Iowa.
In August 1943, Blanche married Lloyd C. Erickson of Marshall, Minn., who passed away in February 1945. On Dec. 26, 1948, she was united in marriage to Oliver Howard Moen of Fertile, Minn. The couple made their home on the Moen Century Farm for more than 55 years. Oliver passed away July 29, 2004 and Blanche moved to Oak Court Apartment in Crookston, Minn. She entered the Riverview Care Center on Nov. 20, 2008.
Blanche was a substitute and Title 1 teacher for several years in the 1960s in the Fertile-Beltrami School. She was active as a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher for many years at the Varnes Lutheran Church. She also was Ladies Aid treasurer for many years at the Varnes Lutheran Church and later at the Maple Bay Free Lutheran Church. Blanche also taught beginner’s piano lessons, was active in the Liberty Homemakers Club, holding various offices over the years, and served for four years on the Women’s Division Council of the Red River Valley Winter Shows.
Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Rick Herbel of Lemmon, S.D.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Dellas and his wife, Lorie, and their children, Micah, Macrina, and Anastasia of Fargo, N.D.; Derick and his wife, Terri, and their children, Jaiden and Jaxson of Dickinson, N.D.; and Deanna Megan and her son, Jacob of Dickinson, N.D.; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Lloyd and Oliver; one brother, Hubert; two sisters, Lucille (Clifford ) Nemitz and Vera (Paul) Hubek; two brothers in infancy; and one niece, Janice Nemitz (Howard) Luick.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May, 4, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, Minn. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, Minn.
