Austin police cited a man early Monday morning for illegal burning in the city limits.

Dale Cochran, 52, was reportedly burning a rubber hose, electrical wires and an extension cord in a portable fire pit in his backyard in the 600 block of 11th St. NW just after midnight Monday.

Officers noticed heavy smoke and the smell of burning plastic coming from the area and found flames coming from the fire pit in Cochran’s backyard, Police Chief Brian Krueger said.

Cochran was reportedly burning the electrical wires and rubber hose with some other items, Krueger said.

Officers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

A report of the incident was sent to the city attorney for review, Krueger said.
