Roswell L. Ulland, age 74, of Albert Lea, Minn., died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center.

Roswell was born on Jan. 28, 1935 to Charles and Leone (Bunker) Ulland in Austin, Minn.  He grew up in rural Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1954.  During his school years, he competed in the individual state wrestling tournament two years.

Ross served in the United States Air Force, stationed in several locations including Greenland.  On August 25, 1961 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Skophammer at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church.  The couple made their home in the Hollandale, Minn. area where Ross worked as a mechanic for Ag Power (formerly Veldman Equipment) retiring in 2000 after 40 years.

Ross was a very creative person, remodeling most of his own house.  He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and working on many special projects.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea and the American Legion.  Ross dearly loved entertaining his three granddaughters by reading and playing outside with them.  With his family, Ross grew vegetables and sold them at Albert Lea Farmer’s Market for 29 years, Minneapolis Farmer’s Market for 10 years, and Austin and Mason City Farmer’s Markets for several years.  His greatest pride was having his granddaughters help him sell at Farmer’s Markets, delighted by their ability to make change and wait on customers.   He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife: Phyllis Ulland; son: Joel (Trace) Ulland; granddaughters: Linnea, Sydney and Eleanor; sister: Lillian (Dan) Peterson, Ft. Worth, Texas; brothers:, Bruce (Sharon) Ulland, Austin, Minn., Lee (Doris) Ulland, Burlington, Wis. and Arnold (Nancy) Ulland, Spring Branch, Texas; and brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Carmen Skophammer, Albert Lea, Minn.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Leone Ulland; son, Greg in 1990, brother, Jerome Ulland; and mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Inanda Skophammer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at First Lutheran Church.  Rev. John Holt will officiate.  Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by area veteran’s organizations.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  To sign the guest book, go to www.bayviewfuneral.com
