Betty J. Hovland, 82
Betty Jean Hovland, 82, of Austin died on May 29, 2009 at Adams Health Care Center.
Betty Jean Codner was born Dec. 11, 1926 to John and Melissa (Carroll) Codner in Seneca, Iowa. She grew up in Backus, Minn. where she graduated Valedictorian of her class. She moved to Austin in 1951. She married Dean Twedt  and they later divorced. On Nov. 21, 1967 Betty married David Hovland in Sioux Falls, S.D. Betty and David shared many interests, including fishing, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, and taking Harley motorcycle trips on the “Jolly Green Giant” in earlier years. They also enjoyed time at their lake home at Nevis, where they lived for 16 years. Betty worked at the Hormel from 1950 to 1970. She was an avid cook and was part Native American and very proud of it.
Surviving is her daughter, Jackie (Jerry) Reuter, Austin; son, Tim Twedt, Illinois; four grandchildren, Brad Reuter, Scott Reuter, Stacy Reuter, Kelly Twedt; four great-grandchildren, Lynsey Reuter, Sydney Reuter, Maddy Reuter, Belle Reuter; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Reverend Russ Wangen officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
