Alice M. Shaw, 89
Alice M. Shaw, 89, of Stewartville, Minn., died on at the Stewartville Care Center on Feb. 1, 2009.
Alice Myrtle Iverson was born on Dec. 26, 1919 in Grand Meadow, Minn. She grew up on the family farm near Grand Meadow and moved into Grand Meadow when she was young. She graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1937. She was a member of the Grand Meadow basketball team and went undefeated every year she played. She married Lawrence L. Shaw on Dec. 15, 1938 at Grand Meadow Lutheran Parsonage. After their marriage the couple farmed in Grand Meadow until 1960 when they moved to a farm near Stewartville. After Mr. Shaw’s retirement, they moved into Stewartville. Alice worked for many years at Wright Produce in Grand Meadow and for 25 years at Rochester Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mahon, Stewawrtville; three sons, Leslie (Betty), Austin, Lanny (Judy), rural Chatfield, Leland “Lee” (Arleen), Stewartville; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Larry; great-granddaughter, Kendra Jo; son-in-law, William Mahon and brother, Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with the Reverend John Heille officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Friends may call at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and at the Church one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorials to the church of the Alzheimer’s Society.
