Murray L. Buchanan, 89
Murray L. Buchanan, 89, of Graceville, Minn., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at the Prairie Manor Health Care Facility in Blooming Prairie, Minn.
Murray was born in Sisseton, S.D. on Oct. 27, 1919 to Roy and Vera (LaGrange) Buchanan. They moved to Graceville, where he resided his entire life except for four years on the West Coast where he was employed in aircraft factories during World War II. On May 14, 1943 he married Loraine (Kay) Margaret Kayser in Seattle, Wash. After the war ended, Murray, Kay and their daughter, Joan, moved back to Graceville. Murray joined his father in the John Deere Implement business where he worked until he retired in 1981. In retirement Murray and Kay enjoyed winters in Edinburg, Texas. Murray was an active member of the Graceville UCC church, a lifelong Mason and a member of the Shrine.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Kay; two sisters, Helen Reitz (Les) and Katherine Zeiher; daughters, Joan (Daryl) Franklin, Carol (Steve) Richards, Janet (Pat) Chladek and Gail Lane (John); son, Scott (Mary) Buchanan; grandchildren, Rebekah Franklin, Luke Franklin, Dawn Richards, Jill Richards, Nicholas Chladek, Russell Swart, Kathryn Swart, Andrew Buchanan, James Buchanan; and numerous nieces and nephews..
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at 11 a.m at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin with the Reverend Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Internment will be at Graceville Consolidated Cemetery, Graceville, this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Graceville Senior Center or donor’s choice.
