Grant C. Shorrel, 90
Grant C. Shorrel, 90, formerly of Austin, passed away on December 12, 2008 at Marinuka Manor, Galesville, Wis.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1918 in La Crosse, Wis., to John and Mamie (Boland) Shorrel.
He grew up on the south side of La Crosse. On May 31, 1941 he married Della Anderson of Hokah, Minn. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this past may. During World War II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from November of 1942 to July of 1945.
In 1948, Grant and Della moved with their infant son, Gary, to Austin, to work for Hormel, where he worked for 32 years. After retiring from Hormel, Grant and Della moved to their home along the river in Trempealeau. Grant served as a trustee on the Trempealeau Board and was its President for one term.
He was a member of the Eagles Club in Austin, the La Crosse American Legion Post #52 and the Galesville Masonic Lodge #177.
Survivors include his wife, Della; son, Gary (Barb), Chippewa Falls, Wis.; granddaughters, Kelly (Rob) Kress, Chandler, Ariz., Cristina (Scott) Wildenberg, Greenville, Wis.; great-grandson, Jack Ryan Wildenberg; sister, Garnet (Wally) Shong; nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.
Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Zwickey Funeral Homes Chapel in Galesville, Wis., with the Reverend Michael Hibbs officiating. Graveside services will be on Tuesday in Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse, Wis., at 2 p.m.
