Leonard Egen

Leonard “Speed” Egen, age 88, of Austin and long-time resident of Stewartville, Minn. died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at Our House Memory Care in Austin where he has resided for the past two years.
Leornard grew up in Stewartville, graduated from Stewartville High School and attended Mankato Teachers College in Mankato, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Stewartville where he was a homebuilder and carpenter until his retirement.
Leonard was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Stewartville. He married Eleanor Johnson on Feb. 6, 1987 at Cape Coral, Fla. and were later divorced.
He was a longtime member of Stewartville American Legion Post #164 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8980.
He is survived by three stepdaughters: Diana Johnson (Everett Rush), of Brownsdale, Minn., Cheryl (Jim) Wolfgram, McGregor, Minn., Julie (Loren) Theel of Eyota, Minn.; two stepsons: James (Lynn) Johnson, Rose Creek, Minn., Curtis Johnson, Kasson, Minn.; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Beverly Reep, of Lady Lake, Fla., Patty Butler, Las Vegas, Carol Egen, San Francisco; 24 nieces and nephews.
Funeral servies will be Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home, Stewartville, officiated by the Reverend Matt Fasnacht. Interment will be at St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Stewartville American Legion and VFW Honor Guards. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Griffin-Gray Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
