Two Austin men face felony assault charges for their roles in a fight Tuesday night downtown that left both with stab wounds.

Jhonny Garcia-Moctezuma, 20, and Adrian Alexander Cantu, 18, were each charged with two counts of second-degree assault Thursday in Mower County court. They are scheduled for arraignment Jan. 28.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Fourth Avenue Northeast on a report of a fight at a residence around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

They found Garcia-Moctezuma near the Tender Maid Sandwich Shop. He said he was drinking with friends and went outside for a cigarette. When Garcia-Moctezuma went back inside, he said a fight had started and he tried to break it up. Garcia-Moctezuma was treated at Austin Medical Center for a stab wound to the leg. His right index finger and head were also cut in the incident.

Cantu was taken to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning and admitted to stabbing Garcia-Moctezuma, the report states. Cantu, who said he was pushed down a flight of stairs during the fight, was treated at AMC for a cut to his thumb.

A police investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
