Victor “Junior” Shade, 85
Victor “Junior” Shade, 85, of Austin, died at Adams Health Care Center on Aug. 17, 2008.
He was born March 11, 1923 to Victor G. and Leila (Kolb) Shade in rural Austin, where he grew up and was raised in the Methodist faith. He attended Cedar City Country School through eighth grade, enrolled in Austin High School for grades nine through twelve and graduated in 1941. Victor worked on the family farm until 1968, when he moved to Arizona. He married Wilma Thorpe on July 26, 1975 in Royal Oak, Mich. Victor brought Wilma to Minnesota where they returned to the home place.
Known as “The Pumpkin Man,” Victor loved raising pumpkins and being outdoors. He liked horses and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, catching turtles and doing puzzles.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma, Adams; children, James, Kingman, Ariz., Cathy, Las Vegas, Nev., Larry (Karen), Woodbridge, Va., William “Bill” (Debbie), Kingman, Ariz., Rebecca, Tulsa, Okla., Jessica, Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Shade, Whittier, Calif.; brother, LuVerne Whitcomb; a stepson in Michigan and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, John and Robert; stepdaughter, April.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the family.
