A 20-year-old Austin man faces a felony charge for allegedly causing quite the ruckus at the Austin Medical Center on Thursday.
Chanse Michael Kelley was charged Friday with a single count of making terroristic threats and acting recklessly. He is scheduled for arraignment on July 29.
According to a criminal complaint, Kelley was at AMC on Thursday morning because of a drug overdose. Allegedly upset about being in the hospital, Kelley was threatening hospital staff, and spitting at and biting some of them.
Due to Kelley’s size — the complaint lists him as 6-feet, 7-inches and 350 pounds — multiple staffers had to struggle to get him restrained. During the confrontation, he reportedly spit at two staffers, bruised another person’s ribs and bit a security guard.
The complaint states that Kelley continued to threaten hospital workers even after he was restrained on a bed.
