A 25-year-old Grand Meadow man has been charged for firing a Glock handgun into the air early Saturday near the city’s Main Street.

Travis John Warmka faces a single felony count of dangerously discharging a weapon in a municipality. He is currently in custody and awaiting arraignment.

According to a criminal complaint, Mower County deputies responded to a call of shots being fired at around 2 a.m. Saturday. They arrived at a property in the 400 block of Second Street Northeast, where empty shell casings and beer cans were scattered in the yard. Deputies spoke with a 43-year-old man, who appeared to be drunk. He said he didn’t know anything about shots being fired.

Nearby, authorities found a Chevrolet Tahoe, which belongs to Warmka, that had a Glock logo on the front windshield. In the truck, deputies found a Glock handgun, along with numerous shells, the complaint states.

Deputies again spoke with the 43-year-old man. After some hesitation, he said that Warmka may have been at his house earlier.

Authorities then met with Warmka at his residence in the 100 block of First Street Northeast. He admitted to shooting the gun and said he had about 10 beers beforehand, the complaint states. He also said the other man did not fire the gun.

Warmka was then arrested.

No one was reported injured during the incident and no damage was reported.
