Hot, muggy summer for Austin

The sweltering, muggy weather on Wednesday was the culmination of the entire summer’s trends.

This summer’s precipitation average is currently at 8.55 inches, which is above the normal average of 6.61 inches. In addition, this summer’s average temperature is 72.9 degrees, compared to the normal average of 70.1 degrees.

The weather conditions are a result of active weather systems from the north drifting farther south than usual and meeting with moisture from the tropics and the Gulf of Mexico, according to Dan Jones, National Weather Service meteorologist.

The weather pattern is expected to continue through the summer, according to Jones.

“We’re looking at the possibility of a ridge of high pressure over the Midwest, which could lead to above normal temperatures for mid to late next week,” he said. “However, we don’t know how strong that will be.”
