The public will be able to get a sneak peak at the new Mower County Jail and Justice Center on Sept. 11 and 13 before the building opens for business the following week.
County commissioners tentatively set Sept. 11 as the grand opening of the new facility with a ribbon cutting and staff available to answer questions at various parts of the building as people can take self-guided tours. The entire building will be open for tours.
The building will then be open again on Sept. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. for tours. A light court week is expected to follow as the courts are slated to move and then open on Sept. 20. The jail isn’t expected to open until October or November to give staff additional time for training with the new facility.
After months of being ahead of schedule, the jail and justice center project saw a few hiccups in the last month as weather postponed the work on the outside. The landscaping was scheduled to be done already.
“I would say they’re within two to four weeks of being done,” Oscarson said.
