Delbert Kinny

Delbert Leroy Kinny, 73, of Austin, died Sunday morning, July 25, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester with his two sons at his side.
He was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Austin, the son of John and Bertha (Moritz) Kinny, the 12th of 15 children. He attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1956. Following graduation from high school, Delbert began working for the Geo A. Hormel Company before entering the United States Army, where he served from 1959 to 1962 in Germany. On July 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to Karen Mayrene Anderson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple lived near Austin and Delbert continued to work for the Hormel Company, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Eagles and American Legion. He was a former member of the Austin Male Chorus, where he had served as their vice president. He enjoyed collecting items he found at flea markets, antique stores and garage sales. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Kinny of Austin; two sons, Douglas (Lori) Kinny and Gregory (Denise) Kinny, all of Blooming Prairie; one grandson, Jeffrey Kinny; five granddaughters, Emily Kinny, Rose Kinny, Hannah Kinny, Beckie (Josh) O’Grady and Gina Law; two sisters, Bernetta Gilpen of St. Paul and Bonnie (John) Funk of St. Joseph, Mo.; one brother, David (Mary) Kinney of Faribault; sister-in-law, Judy Kinney of Albert Lea; brothers-in-law, Tom Mlenar of St. Paul, Ernest Hoag of Lonsdale and Gene Hamberg of Glenville; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Don, Kenneth, John, Robert and Harold; and six sisters, Mary Mlenar, Shirley Kinny, Loretta Nelson, LaVonne Hunt, Betty Hamberg and JoAnn Hoag.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Interment with flag presentation by American Legion Post #91 will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Casketbearers will be Delbert Funk, Bobby Hamberg, Kevin Hamberg, Michael Kinney, Mike Kinney and Rodney Kinny.
