Officers responded to the 1900 block of Fifth Avenue Southeast early Thursday on a report of a lightly clothed male banging on a woman’s door for help.
When police arrived at around 2 a.m., the 21-year-old man, who was not wearing shoes, a jacket, gloves or a hat, asked to get in the squad car because he was cold. It was roughly 15 degrees at the time of the incident, according to a police report.
The man, who also had a bloody mouth and appeared highly intoxicated, was taken to Austin Medical Center.
The homeowner, who called police when she heard the man banging on the door and asking for help, said she did not wish to press charges.
The 21-year-old subject said he did not remember how he got to the house or how he ended up without warm clothing. It is also unknown exactly how long he was outside.
Bare footprints tracked from the house to a nearby vehicle, but the car was registered to someone else. The vehicle’s owner was familiar with the 21-year-old male but did not know anything more about the incident.
