Frederick Walter Konken, 95, formerly of Brownsdale, died peacefully at Adams Health Care Center Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Fred was born Nov. 17, 1914, to Henry and Anna (Tammen) Konken in rural Brownsdale and attended country school along with his 11 siblings. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dexter. Fred married Margaret Vera Schmidt on July 20, 1941, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Waltham, and settled to a farm near Brownsdale where they lived and had four children. The family later moved into Brownsdale where Fred hauled milk for Red Rock Creamery and Land O’ Lakes elevator until retirement. Fred lived a full life filled with love from his family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed farming, country life, animals, and most of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They later joined Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brownsdale, where he was active in the church council.
Fred is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret (Schmidt) Konken; three children, Betty (Nathan) Merten, of Brownsdale, Eleanore (Darrel) Gordon, of Adams, Donald (Leah) Konken, of Austin; two grandchildren, Lisa (Dan) Landherr, of Wyoming, Minn., Paul (Trish) Gordon, of Brownsdale; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Tyrone, Mary and Karl Landherr, of Wyoming, Minn.; special grandchildren, Jessika Barahona, of Owatonna, Marina Zapparoli, of Italy, Irene Bernal, of Spain, Miguel Spada, of Brazil, Ahmet Ayca, of Turkey and Alican Ayca, of New York; siblings, Grace (Mike) Miner, of Winona, Florence Beyer, of Green Leaf, Wis., Walter (Bernice) Konken, of Austin; nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; granddaughters, Elizabeth Rose and Marianne Margaret Konken; and eight siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brownsdale, with Rev. Jeffrey Sage officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
