A petroleum company is replacing gas it delivered to nearly two dozen Minnesota communities, including Austin, because it contains too much ethanol.

The gasoline came from Magellan Midstream Partners Petroleum plant in Mankato. Magellan spokesman Bruce Heine says “an operational issue” caused the gas to contain more than 10 percent ethanol.

The Minnesota Department of Commerce says it’s received two consumer complaints about problems with vehicles and has traced the high ethanol gas to 21 communities.

Heine tells KARE-TV Magellan has been “reclaiming” the gas and replacing it with gas from other terminals in the area.

The communities involved include Mankato, North Mankato, New Ulm, Redwood Falls, Sleepy Eye, Albert Lea, Austin, Renville, Owatonna, Olivia, Winnebago, Le Sueur, Springfield, St. Peter, Belle Plaine, Blue Earth, Hector, Winthrop, Morgan, Gaylord and Fairmont.
