Another good show at the fair

It may have been blazing hot, but the Mower County Fair once again proved to be the perfect antidote for those late-summer doldrums. From midway rides to show animals to combines smashing each other, the fair was fun for all.
The annual event does not, of course, take place without an immense amount of work and planning, the vast majority of it by volunteers whose reward is purely the satisfaction of putting on a good show, year after year. And a good show it was, certainly the best free show this side of the Mississippi. Without spending a dime, fair-goers were treated to an endless parade of people-watching opportunities, tours of an immense variety of commercial exhibits, a huge variety of 4-H and amateur craft and agricultural displays, and the usual fun demonstrations all around the fairgrounds. For a few bucks, there was the deliciously unhealthy “fair food,” grandstand entertainment and carnival rides.
The Mower County Fair is always worth a visit and this year, hot as the weather may have been, was no exception. Our thanks go out to those who made it possible.
