Margaret Mae Downey, 84

Margaret (Rebhahn, Frank) Downey, 84, who resided in Austin for the past 58 years, passed away at Field Crest Nursing Home on Aug. 20, 2010.

Margaret was born May 21, 1926, in Dodge, Wis. to Joseph and Florence Rebhahn. She was a talented seamstress and owned an Upholstery Shop for many years working evenings as a waitress at the Riviera Supper Club. After her first retirement she worked as a cashier at Cash Wise – finally retiring at the age of 82. Margaret was an avid gardener and voracious reader and traveled each and every highway of life in “her way.” Her spirit was a loving, caring and compassionate one with a zest for life and will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Margaret is survived by her husband Thomas (Mike) Downey; children: Ellie Rezabek-Turner of Wahpeton, ND; Adele (Alan) Kimpell of Greenwood; Sandi (Bill) Lynd of Earlville, Ill.;  Michael (Jolene) Frank of Fort Mill, S.C.; Margaret (Richard) Hardy of Santa Barbara, Calif. and James (Kristie) Frank of Escondido, Calif.; daughter-in-law  Susan (Lauritzen) Frank of Austin;  step-children Kenneth Downey of Minneapolis; Keith Downey of Austin and Kim (Susan) Downey of Austin; 26 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sisters  Delores (Martin) Czaplewski of Bloomington; Eileen (Gerald) Schmidtnezhdt of Arlington, Texas,; Rosanne (Donald) Schultz of Winona and brothers Edward (Cheryl) Rebhahn of Viroqua, Wis., and Paul ‘Cy’ (Linda) Rebhahn of Adelanto, Calif, 2 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law.

Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband (Allen Frank), son Allen Frank Jr., two sons-in-law (Robert Rezabek and Andy Waletzski), a step-daughter-in-law (Eunice Downey), 2 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 sister-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law.

Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

A Celebration of Life for Margaret will be held at the Mayer Funeral Home in Austin from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday Aug. 25 prior to cremation.
