A man who was arrested after kicking an officer at Austin Medical Center earlier this month pleaded guilty in Mower County court Thursday to physically assaulting a peace officer, a fourth degree assault charge.

According to a criminal complaint, Eric Michael Young was asked to leave the hospital and was told that if he returned he would be arrested. Officers were called to AMC around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 after Young entered the hospital for a second time.

When officers tried to handcuff Young, he began to flex his wrists and struggle. He also kicked backwards at an officer, according to the complaint.

Young was taken down to the ground and was sprayed with a chemical irritant spray by police. He was then taken to jail.

Young awaits sentencing Sept. 30.
