The Austin High School wrestling team topped a 12-team field at the Andover Holiday Classic Invitational Saturday.
The Packers finished with 194 points, while Princeton placed second with 178.
“This was a fantastic team effort in many respects,” said Austin wrestling coach William Kinney.
“I am so very proud of our team and staff, as this was not an easy tournament win by any means. The entire team wrestled their hearts out, placing 13 of the 15 wrestlers competing in the varsity tournament.”
Leading the way for Austin were Eric Power, at 119 pounds; Howie Underwood at 145; and Michael Hirsch at 189. All three wrestlers finished their weight class in first pace.
Other place winners included Devon Felton (third at 103); Drew Chapek (fourth at 103); Brennen Russell (fifth at 112); Alex Amrich (fifth at 125); Dylan Diekmann, (fourth at 130); Lucas Akkerman (fifth at 140); Bryce Zahradnik (fifth at 152); Aaron Juenger, third at 160); Brett Kraemer (third at 215); and Thomas Herrera, fourth at 285).
Felton also won the fastest fall trophy at 23 seconds during the consolation round.
Next up for the Packers is a home meet versus Century Thursday, which will also be the annual alumni meet, honoring all Austin and Austin Pacelli wrestling alumni prior to the varsity dual.
