A 30-year-old Dodge Center man charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Lyle girl entered into a plea agreement Thursday in Mower County District Court.

Isaac Joseph Jones pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct in exchange for dismissal of one count fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. As part of the plea agreement, Jones will be sentenced to 15 years probation, with one year in jail as a condition of the probation.

According to a court complaint, the 14-year-old girl’s father locked Jones in a camper around 7 a.m. the morning of Aug. 15 after discovering Jones and the girl had been in the camper together.

The girl told police she met up with Jones at the Lyle City Park at 4 a.m. on Aug. 15. The two then went to the camper, where Jones and the girl began kissing. She told police Jones touched her sexually, but they did not engage in sexual intercourse, according to the complaint

However, the girl reportedly told officers Jones asked her via text message if he could have sex with her.

When police questioned Jones, he said he came to “hang out” with his “friend,” whom he acknowledged was 14- or 15-years-old, a court complaint states.

Jones’ attorney, Julie Maxwell, said the anticipated probation sentence is a downward dispositional departure, meaning less than the presumptive sentence under Minnesota sentencing guidelines. The caveat to the lesser sentence is that Jones must attend treatment and cooperate with his probation guidelines.

“We anticipate no difficulties,” Assistant Mower County Attorney Jeremy Clinefelter said about the anticipated sentence during Thursday’s hearing.

Jones is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 26, 2012. He will remain in the Mower County jail until then.
