Donald P. Kolb, age 83

Donald P. Kolb, age 83, passed away on Aug. 23 at his home, 2455 Hwy. 52 N., Rochester.

Don was born in Austin on Aug. 20, 1927, the eldest child of Matthias and Ethel Kolb. He served in WWII as a Seaman 2nd Class. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked at the family bakery in Austin for many years. He retired from the Mayo Clinic in 1990 and devoted most of his time to golf and bowling. He was a member at Northern Hills Golf Course and the senior bowling league in Stewartville.

Don is survived by 7 daughters, Bonnie (Warren) Lenz of Rochester, Mary Elizabeth (Dolly) Kolb of Austin, Ann Kolb of Owatonna, Linda Dahmen of Rose Creek, Jean Tesch of Springfield, Mo., Diane Krekelberg of Austin and Judy (Jim) Steneder of Clarks Grove; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph Kolb of Austin and Paul Kolb of Faribault.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

At Don’s request, there will be no visitation or memorial service. His body was cremated and the family will hold a graveside service at Fort Snelling at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2010. This is the only service he requested.

May God have patience when it comes to golfing and bowling when Don gets to heaven.
