Tickets are still available for the ever-popular Michael Veldman and Friends show, opening this Friday at the Paramount Theatre

Michael Veldman, Brian Bawek, Kaye Perry and Erin Schumacher are planning a Christmas show this year that revolves around the concept of believing. It’s Michael Veldman and Friends: Just Believe.

“It’s an Austin tradition,” Paramount Theatre manager of operations Scott Anderson said of the annual show.

Anderson also said that the holiday show is by far the best attended show at the theater. The Lori Line Christmas production does well too, but Michael Veldman and Friends fill the seats for six shows, Anderson said.

Last year the theater sold 550 tickets for each show. The Paramount’s total capacity is 622.

“For a town this size, it is truly amazing,” Anderson said.

Some of the proceeds raised benefit the theatre.

The four local friends put on the holiday musical show at the Paramount with a different theme each year.

Past themes have been the holidays on a ship, in snowy Colorado or stranded in a New York City hotel.

All Anderson will reveal about this year’s show is that it is about believing and that it is going to be excellent.

“I don’t know any more, but even if I did, I couldn’t tell you,” he said.

The performers have gone so far as to tape over the windows on the theatre doors, so that passersby cannot even get a glimpse of the set until they are in their seats and the curtain goes up.

“It is a very elaborate set and the production value is great… They like for it to be a surprise,” Anderson said.

“This show touches a nerve here in Austin that is just incredible,” he continued.

Tickets are on sale for $12 at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE. There are no Internet sales for this event.

The Paramount Theatre is owned by the Austin Area Commission for the Arts (AACA), a non-profit group.
