A boat was reportedly stolen from a property in the Lansing area sometime early Thursday but found later in the morning.
The 18-foot, $7,000 boat, which belongs to a man living on 269th Avenue, was found several blocks away at the intersection of 262nd Street and 540th Avenue at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
The boat was found in a ditch, along with an abandoned truck and a trailer hitch. The hitch apparently didn’t fit the boat, likely causing it and the truck to go off the road, according to a Mower County Sheriff’s Office report.
The truck and the hitch do not belong to the boat’s owner, and the sheriff’s office took the vehicle in for further investigation.
The boat owner said he recalls seeing the boat on his property at around midnight Thursday when he went to sleep.
No suspects have been identified in the case, though authorities hope the recovered truck helps lead to the culprit.
