LETTER: “Tolly” deserves permanent recognition
Published 6:01 am Monday, December 7, 2009
Upon the death of Dave Tollefson on Dec. 3, a widely deserved recognition of rare friendships and precious accomplishments has been stated.
A funeral on Monday, Dec. 7, will appropriately affirm the goodwill generated by this gracious person. Not only will the congregation of St. Olaf Lutheran Church call attention to his faith and community service, but southern Minnesota will respectfully honor him “Tolly.”
An early suggestion is hereby stated for a movement of an appropriate permanent recognition in Mower County. As a Commissioner, “Tolly” was a prime mover in decisions that made downtown Austin the location of a new jail, courthouse, and justice center. A majority of citizens, I believe, applaud that vision.
It is now the time within the legal perameters, with decisions of the proper authorities, to make a commitment to place the name of Commissioner David Tollefson on a room, entrance, courtroom or area of some part of this facility. Citizens: Are you with me? Some move now can begin to make a formal designation that for history, states that this man “Tolly” has served us with wisdom’s abandonment.
