HOLLANDALE — A 3-year-old boy injured last month after his father reportedly backed over him with a riding lawn mower has been released from a hospital after having his left leg amputated at the knee.

The boy, Landon Uthke, is now recovering at home in rural Hollandale. Petra Uthke, Landon’s mother, said her son came home from a Rochester hospital on Friday. He is adjusting to changes in his lifestyle now that his leg has been partially amputated.

Landon was in the hospital for less than a week.

According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, the boy’s father, Kevin Uthke, was mowing the yard near the family’s home three miles south of Hollandale on Oct. 23 when he accidentally backed the mower onto the child. Initial reports stated the boy received injuries to one of his legs and to his torso, but that the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Landon was airlifted to Rochester by Mayo One.

Petra asked for continued support from the community through prayer as Landon recovers.

She also encouraged people to save pop tabs to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House, which benefited them during Landon’s hospital stay.
