The Grand Meadow football team went out with a strong effort, but couldn’t find enough offense in a 28-0 loss at No. 1 Spring Grove (11-0 overall) in the Section 1 nine man title game Friday.
The No. 2 Superlarks (8-3 overall) start just two seniors, but they were hoping to make some noise with their young squad.
“We feel good about what we have coming back,” GM head Gary Sloan said. “But we didn’t want a moral victory. We wanted to win and we didn’t do that. We played as hard as any Grand Meadow team has in the last few years, but we made too many mistakes.”
The Larks had a chance to take the opening kickoff back for a score as there was a big gap in upfield, but Trenton Bleifus lost his footing and fell down. A few plays later, GM botched a snap on a punt and the Lions took over deep in GM territory and scored to go up 7-0.
In the second quarter, GM threw an interception that the Lions converted into another score that made it 14-0.
Aric Elton had 115 rushing yards and two TDs for SG.
