BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. — Police say a man and his 23-year-old son were drinking rum and handling a gun at their Brooklyn Center home when the son was fatally shot.
Fifty-eight-year-old Howard Bascomb faces a charge of second-degree manslaughter in the death of his son, Alexander Bascomb. A criminal complaint says the father estimated he had six drinks before his son decided to take the handgun apart and put it back together about 3 a.m. Tuesday. The father says he pulled the trigger after his son handed the gun to him and told him the safety was on.
The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/sairnh ) reports the complaint says the father acknowledged he wasn’t paying attention to the safety and told police he was to blame for his son’s death.
