The Lyle/Pacelli football team fell to Glenville/Emmons in Glenville Saturday 34-8.

The game started Friday night in Lyle with the Wolverines (1-1 overall) leading 6-0. The game was delayed to Saturday due to lightning and moved to Glenville after Lyle’s field was not ready to go.

The Wolverines started strong on Saturday as they scored three times in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead to the break. G/E’s Zach Williamson delivered a big blow to L/P when hit Perry Kirsch for a 64-yard touchdown pass with one second left in the first half.

“We were telling everyone to get back, but they still scored,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said. “That was a big play.”

L/P outscored G/E 8-6 in the second half but it was too little, too late.

“We started off slow and we played way better in the second half,” Buntje said.

L/P had a chance to score in the third quarter as they got inside the 15-yard line, but it came up short.

A week after he rushed for over 100 yards, L/P sophomore Damien Haguen was held to just 18 yards on 12 carries.

“They were definitely keying on him,” Buntje said.

While the decision to play in Glenville on Saturday may have been an unpopular one, Buntje said it was the safe choice.

“The field wasn’t ready and kids were going to get hurt (if we played there),” he said.
