Gene D. Converse, 70, of Lake Alfred went to be with his Lord, Sept. 13, 2010. He died of heart failure.
He was born in Albert Lea, on Dec. 22, 1939. Gene was a radio personality in Wausau, WI for many years. He moved to Florida in 1987 and most recently worked in many capacities at Home Depot, Lake Wales. Gene was active in his church where he was a deacon and worked the soundboard. Known for his rich voice, he narrated church musical performances. Gene loved animals and always had loyal pets. He was a great Green Bay Packer’s fan.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; sons: Scott (Jill) Converse of Edgerton, WI and Jeff (Robin) Converse of Winter Haven; grandchildren: Adam, Ellen and Christian Converse and Breanna Hall; stepchildren: Gail (Henry) Snipes, Gina (Jeff) Balencic; Gwen Gamble and Greg (Cherie)Gamble; step-children, Jimmy McGuffey, Trevor Gamble and Brad and Bethany Balencic.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Blanche Converse; wife, Nancy; and son, Chris.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, 515 E. Haines Blvd., Lake Alfred, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gene Converse Memorial Fund, First Presbyterian Church, P.O. box 1107, Lake Alfred, FL, 33850.
