Austin churches will come together Wednesday morning for the 20th annual See You At the Pole prayer rally, a national student-led prayer rally for Christian students in front of their school’s flagpole.

Students can meet in the Austin High School parking lot and at the parking lot at Ellis Middle School where they will participate in a simple prayer for friends, families, teachers and school.

“It’s just a real unifying thing for our students,” said Greg Atkins, the youth minister at Faith Church. “It pulls together the Austin church, not just all the other churches around.”

A student breakfast will be held at 6:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church before students gather in the AHS parking lot, according to David Jordan, the youth minister for Youth for Christ here in Austin. At 7 a.m., students in Austin will be joined by others across the nation in prayer.

Tony Passe, one of the AHS students who will lead the prayer said he’s been working on what he’s going to say for the past two weeks. Passe had participated in SYATP last year, so when he was asked to help lead the prayer by Jordan, who acts as a guide for the high school prayer, he knew what to expect.

“I felt that God wanted me to do this this year and speak to people about See You At the Pole,” Passe said.

Jordan said the event drew 30 students last year, and about 50 students participated the year before that. While he hopes more students come out and pray, he believes there will be about 30 to 50 students participating Wednesday.

Adults and other youth leaders are welcome to stop by and watch the event.

“This is a great way [for students] to show that they do want to see God make a difference,” Jordan said.
