Pacelli goes for laughs with ‘The Bachelor King’

The Pacelli High School and Middle School Drama Department presents “The Bachelor King” Friday and Saturday in the Pacelli Auditorium at 7 p.m.

The play, written by Martin A. Fallose, is a spoof of several reality TV shows and is reminiscent of its namesake “The Bachelor.”

The plot begins when poor King Evian uses his last dying words to pass his royal succession not onto a greedy prince but to a hillbilly named Yokel. Yokel needs a wife to help him run the kingdom, so his staff brings in eligible ladies to vie for the new king’s hand — in an “American Idol” and “Survivor” fashion.

“This play will have you rolling in the aisles by the time Yokel sorts through the contenders to find his true love and saves his kingdom from ruin,” drama director Lia Culbert said.

Barb Kasel is the assistant director. There is a cast of more than 20 students.

“We hope everyone will come out and enjoy the show,” Culbert said.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and staff.

“The Bachelor King” is Nov. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. in the Pacelli Auditorium.
