It’s not the size of the dog, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

That’s an old saying and I found myself thinking it as I watched the Blooming Prairie football team Friday night.

The Awesome Blossoms offensive line had every reason to wilt on Friday night against No. 8 ranked LeCenter. They were severely undersized and the Wildcats were about as physical a team as they come.

The Blossoms did struggle creating rushing lanes against the big front four of LeCenter, but pass protection was an entirely different thing.

Using leverage and good footwork, the smaller BP linemen kept quarterback Luc Zellmer relatively untouched the entire night.

Zellmer was tackled for a loss just once in a game where he went back to throw 29 time, while passing for 400 yards and five scores.

While BP did roll out their pocket to help protection, the Blossoms’ protection of their quarterback was nothing short of spectacular.

Since BP was struggling on the ground, LeCenter knew the Blossoms were passing on almost every key play, yet Zellmer still had plenty of time to throw on a fourth and ten touchdown pass at the end of the first half.

Sometimes it’s important to remember, while quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers make headlines — it’s linemen who make wins.
