Sumner swings into holidays

Sumner Elementary School students are ready to raise some money. It’ll be easier for them than they think, however.
Sumner will put on a “One Stop Christmas Shopping” craft fair on Saturday to help pay for a new swing set.
“The students have taken this project on,” said Sumner Principal Sheila Berger.
Student council members and Sumner staff will help about 43 vendors sell their wares so families can buy locally made gifts for Christmas. Sumner students will greet customers, get coffee and assist people in shopping.
“We’re trying to get our kids more involved in doing fundraisers,” said Karla Cooley, student council adviser. “We’re also going to try to get them doing some community service.”
For their part, students are excited to help bring a new swing set to Sumner. One of the swings broke earlier this year and had to be taken out of the playground.
“It kind of feels good because you’re helping others,” said Toby Gogolewski, fourth-grader.
Jeimy Ramirez agreed, saying it was nice to help the school.
“It’s exciting,” she said.
“One-Stop Christmas Shopping” takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, inside Sumner’s gymnasium.
