An Austin man was convicted of one count simple felony forgery and sentenced to one year and one day at the St. Cloud Minnesota Correctional Facility Thursday.

The prison sentence was stayed, however, and Jose Alberto Estrada-Hernandez, 30, will be serving his sentence in the form of three years of supervised probation, complete with 40 hours of community service.

Estrada-Hernandez must complete his 40 hours of community service to stay in the country, but he could face deportation for his conviction regardless. If deported, his probation will be unsupervised.

Estrada-Hernandez was arrested at his girlfriend’s house on Aug. 4. His girlfriend, Maria Guadalupe Balderas-Lara, was also convicted of felony forgery.

Police discovered the man had been using the alias of Randy Reyes Ornelas to work at Quality Pork Processing and had several fishing licenses under his Ornelas alias, which were found in the house.

The search, which was conducted at 1510 8th St. SE, also uncovered QPP identification cards in the name of Ornelas, a Mexican Matricula card and passport belonging to Estrada-Hernandez and a Mexican birth certificate belonging to Balderas-Lara.
