The Grand Meadow football team used big plays in the first half and physical play in the second half to beat Houston (2-3 overall) 42-6 on the road Friday.

Caleb Leichtnam had running touchdowns of 47, 34 and 61 yards in the first half to put GM (5-0 overall) up 21-6 at the break and the Larks pounded it out in the second half with junior running back Richard Bain, who had 140 yards and three scores.

“Our offensive line played well and we wore them out,” GM head coach Gary Sloan said. “In the second half they crowded the line of scrimmage to stop Caleb, and we just pounded Bain and he ran physical behind some good blocking.”

It was the first time the Larks had won in Houston since 2005.

“Houston’s a good team. They’re small, but they’re quick and they’ve got great balance,” Sloan said.
