An Austin man was convicted Thursday of felony third-degree burglary for breaking into Trimble’s Cycle Center and stealing motorcycle merchandise May 3.

Ivan Rodriguez, 26, was sentenced to 18 months at the St. Cloud Minnesota Correctional Facility. However, his sentence is stayed for five years and he will serve his time in the form of five years supervised probation.

According to a criminal complaint, a call came in from a citizen in the area reporting someone breaking a front, glass door at the business, located at 900 10th Drive SE. The reportee then saw a man leave the store quickly with what appeared to be clothing.

Police responded and found Rodriguez, who matched the description given by the reportee, a block away loading something into the back of a vehicle. Rodriguez was ordered to the ground at gunpoint and handcuffed. While cuffing him, officers noticed a a number of cuts and a large amount of blood on his hands.

Rodriguez admitted to breaking into the store and said he cut his hands while doing so, the complaint states.

The officers recovered roughly $500 in merchandise, though mostly blood soaked, from Rodriguez’s vehicle.

The damage to Trimble’s front door and a display case that housed the merchandise was roughly $787.

Rodriguez has been ordered to pay $1,568 in restitution for the stolen and damaged items. He also has to attend outpatient treatment at Austin Medical Center and cannot consume alcohol or enter bars or liquor stores during his probation period. He must also complete 40 hours of community service and maintain employment or full-time employment status.
