Pelican Rapids police arrested a man suspected in the death of an infant over the weekend.
Pedro Mendoza, 30, was taken into custody Friday for probable cause of first degree manslaughter after police responded to a call at a residence in the northeast part of the city that an infant was not breathing.
The call went out at 10:50 p.m. The infant male was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and then transferred to Fargo, police reported. He died around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mendoza was at the residence when officers arrived. Whether he has any relation to the infant has not been released by police. He has not yet been charged with a crime.
“At this time, we’re awaiting results from the autopsy,” said Pelican Rapids Police Chief Jeff Stadum. The results should be back within the next few days.
