An Austin woman can actually be thankful she was pulled over Friday.

Pamela Jane Severson, 54, was heading down Oakland Avenue East at around 5:45 p.m. when an officer stopped her because flames were coming from the hood of her van.

Severson and a 10-year-old female passenger exited the vehicle safely and Austin firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Severson told police she had just picked up the van from repairs and was on her way home.

A police report did not indicate a damage estimate.
