Vicki L. (Hanson) Benson, 58, of Springfield, Ill, formerly of Blooming Prairie, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born March 10, 1953, in Blooming Prairie, Minn., the daughter of Clinton and Elaine Hanson. Vicki graduated from BPHS in 1971.

Vicki retired in 2008 as Benefits Counselor/Manager from SIU School of Medicine after 25 years of service. Vicki was a volunteer for St. Agnes Grade School in Springfield after retirement. She took great joy in watching her granddaughters play sports and enjoyed traveling, reading, food, wine and any event with family or close friends.

She is survived by a son, Jared (Danielle) Benson of Austin, Texas; daughter, Jacie (Carl) Burt of Springfield and three granddaughters, McKenna, Chloe, and Ella; sisters and brother: Barbara (Gene) Lysne of Albert Lea, Clint (Paula) Hanson of Plano, Texas, Cheryl (Don) Bulver of Cleveland, Minn., Roger (LeAnne) Hanson of Blooming Prairie, Rhonda Benson of Austin and Betti (Greg) Johnson of Blooming Prairie and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Valerie Hanson Garness.

Visitation services for family and friends will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday Nov. 26, in the Fireside Room. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Donations Pavers for Pleasant Plains Athletic Booster Club in Pleasant Plains, Ill. She made an anatomical gift to SIU Carbondale.
