MN terror suspect scheduled for release

MINNEAPOLIS — A Canadian citizen who admitted he attended al-Qaida training camps in Afghanistan and attended lectures by Osama bin Laden could soon be released from prison and deported.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons says 37-year-old Mohammed Abdullah Warsame (war-SAHM’-ee) is projected to be released from its prison in Terre Haute, Ind., on Friday.
Warsame pleaded guilty in May 2009 to conspiracy to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization.
He was sentenced in July 2009 to seven years and eight months in prison, but got credit for time served and good behavior. He has been in custody since December 2003.
As part of a plea deal in federal court in Minnesota, Warsame agreed to be deported to Canada after serving his sentence. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman says the agency doesn’t discuss upcoming deportation proceedings for security reasons.
