Blooming Prairie grad Spencer Ohm finished his college football career with the best game he ever played for Concordia University.

In a game that was played in the Metrodome due to a scheduling conflict, Ohm threw for a school and Northern Sun Conference record seven touchdowns as the Golden Bears beat Southwest Minnesota State 60-53 recently.

Ohm completed 20 of his 22 passes and threw for 482 yards, while rushing for 53 yards on five carries.

“It was unbelievable,” Ohm said. “We knew they’re secondary was weak and we took advantage of it all game.”

Ohm missed the first half of Concordia’s season with an injury, but as he watched the team struggle, he hurried to get back in the lineup. Once he got on the field, he led Concordia to four wins in its last five games as the Golden Bears finished 6-5 overall.“It was tough to come back from the injury,” he said. “But I’m glad I did come back. We were able to get our morale up and it got us excited. Something had to change, because we were on a losing streak.”

Ohm was also in the Metrodome last week when he watched BP play in the state football tournament. He gives a lot of credit to BP head coach Chad Gimbel and BP quarterback Luc Zellmer for getting to the Dome two of the last three years.

“I’m very proud of all of the things they’ve done and they had great support from the fans at that game,” Ohm said. “I told (Luc) I was proud of him and his leadership.”

Ohm said he picked up the game of football at a young age in BP. Once he got to Concordia, his game evolved even more.

“Growing up in BP, football is instilled in you and it’s inside you. When you’re younger, you get so much glory and you thrive to do it. As I got older, I really began to love the game,” Ohm said. “Playing football in a small town, you don’t see blitzes, and changes. You basically see the same defense every week. My talents got me (to Concordia) and I had to learn how to read a defense when I got there.”

Ohm hopes his football career isn’t over as he plans on attending a couple of combines in the spring to see if he has any type of future to keep playing.

“I don’t feel like I’m quite ready to be done yet,” Ohm said.

Ohm finishes his Concordia career with 5,596 yards with 47 touchdowns as he completed 59.3 percent of his passes.

He ranks second in school history in pass completions (438), passing yards and passing TDs.
