A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.
About 1 to 2 inches of snow from a system slowly moving through the area had fallen by 4 p.m. across southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa, according to the National Weather Service.
Area residents woke up to slick roads Saturday, ahead of a predicted 3 to 6 inches of snow. Freezing rain fell late Friday night and into early Saturday, causing some slow travel on roads.
Saturday’s snowfall has been heavy at times, reducing visibility to one-half mile or less.
Snow will continue to fall into Sunday morning with snow or slush-covered roads making travel hazardous.
Skies will eventually clear and give way to decreasing clouds throughout Sunday.
