A well-known name in Austin tennis

After the history of the AHS athletic fields and football stadium last week, here is the story of Keith Paulson. He was the AHS tennis coach from 1964 to 1991.
Paulson was born in Ames, Iowa and grew up playing tennis through the park and rec programs. He continued to compete in singles and doubles tennis at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
After launching a tennis program in Charles City, Iowa, Paulson came to Austin in 1964. He taught social studies and coached tennis, with many Big Nine Championships and state titles in 1969 and 1982.
Paulson continued to play tennis, competing at regional and national levels until he suffered a debilitating stroke at age 58 in 1991. Paulson died in 2002, the same year AHS dedicated the Wescott Field Complex Tennis Courts in his honor.
